Goose Island, Honker's Ale

Brown with a little copper.  Malty and nutty with hint of hop.  Very even and smooth.  Not as bitter as I was expecting from an English Bitter.  It feels like they could have had something extraordinary here if they'd gone just a few more steps.

Better than your average brew, but not by much.

Founders, Dirty Bastard

Very cloudy reddish-brownish-red/brown.

I'd try to describe the smell, but I have a sinus infection.

Mouthfeel is medium body approaching a full creamy texture.

Taste is kinda unique.  Imagine a well-rounded light stout + sweetness + a bit of alcohol (scotch, says the bottle).  The sweetness reminds me of maple or maybe molasses.  The alcohol is there, but doesn't get in the way too much.

I think it's ok.  I should try it again sometime when i don't have a cold.  I think i'd like it more without the alcohol.

Killian's, Irish Red

Neat color - reddish copper.  I've never seen this color before.  I think I'll call it "ropper".

Nothing interesting about the smell.  Mostly malt.

Tastes unimpressive.  Malty and... well... there's a bit of honey.  I wouldn't mind having a few of these and a brat or two with my bro's (if i had bro's), but not worth going out of the way to find it.

Meh.

Terrapin, Tree Hugger

Poured from a quart growler, barely a day off the tap.

I was really hoping for something special here.  I really was.  Terrapin has yet to impress my inexperienced palette.  I've tried their IPA, Hopsecutioner, Rye pale ale and now this.

Terrapin is my home team and you always root for your home team... even if they're mediocre.  I'll be back, Terrapin.

Mississippi Mud, Black & Tan

Kind of a letdown.  Not a bad beer, just single dimensional.  Not a lot going on.  I was expecting something more like a Guinness/Bass kinda thing.  It's better than a Yeungling black & tan, but not by much.

Clear, dark brown, and huge head that hung around for a couple minutes.

I'll give it another shot sometime, but for now I'm just calling it average.

Victory, Golden Monkey

Orange, citris, apple(?), spice. Alcohol flavor is there, but it doesn't get in the way of anything.  A hoppie bite develops as it warms and is kinda nice.  Beeradvocate reviews frequently mention banana and clove... yeh, i kinda get that, i guess.

This is my first tripel ever.  I was expecting it to go down hard, but I'm impressed about how smooth it was.  The fruity/spicy thing took a few seconds to get used to, but it was very enjoyable.

A few extra thoughts:   as my wife noticed, it is pee colored.  Also, the 19 proof (9.5% alcohol by volume) snuck up on me.  Nice buzz.  Yes, I'm a lightweight.

Anchor Steam Beer

I've really enjoyed getting to experience a new beer almost every day this past week.  Not a bad one yet.  I wish I had done this earlier.

This Anchor poored out a beautiful peach/amber/copper color.  It had a smooth, mellow flavor with a fruity twinge on the backside.  Toward the end of the glass it picked up a slight bitterness as it warmed.  Overall it was enjoyable.  I wish I had a few more to go with it.

He'Brew, Messiah Nut Brown Ale

Not exactly what I was expecting.  Heavy hop-iness kinda puts me off and this beer treads dangerously close.  Not to the point where I couldn't enjoy it, but almost.

I didn't really pick up on any of the cool malts listed on the bottle, but that may have been due to my inexperienced pallet... or the hops.

It was a really neat color.  Dark red and brown.  I wish i had cap'd a pic in the light.

It wasn't bad.  According to my taste; just average.

Bell's Oberon Ale

American pale wheat ale.  First impressions were great.  Very light yet flavorful, although it had a funky aftertaste.  Perfect carbonation.  I'd prefer it over any grocery store macrobrew, but I wouldn't go out of my way to find it.
